This year we worked towards having a very diverse and inclusive council. All the work done by the VPI(Nahda Said) this year is really important to the growth and development of the MSA and I hope I can continue the good work. We have the gender equity and anti racism committee which I hope I can work with to ensure that race and gender based issues are discussed and everyone is safe comfortable. I will work with the council to promote equality and fairness according to the teachings of Islam.

Qualifications:

I’m presently the fundraising director and in my role I’ve been fortunate to talk to and learn a lot from people of different works of life. This is essential to the VPI position because it has prepared me to interact with people and learn from them. I’ve learnt a lot by attending race, gender and religious issues and I feel like that will help me as VPI.

Platform:

If elected as VPSL for the year 2017-2018, I will work with my committee to enhance the university experience for muslim and non muslim students on campus by organizing events that are fun, robust, entertaining and engaging. As a socially active student I understand the need of having social events that takes a student’s mind off studies and allows them to relax, which is necessary in a busy school environment. I will plan diverse events that range from socializing indoor events to fun outdoor events. Some examples of my plan include having a first-year coffeehouse where first-year student will have a chance to come and showcase their talents and meet with senior-year students on campus. Another event I will plan would be a faculty-student networking night, where students will have the opportunity to spend an evening with faculty members on campus and learn key skills/tips from them to reinforce their study methods and improve their studying methods. A main focus of my term would be to organize events that are welcoming to sisters, such as sisters-only indoor sports events. Furthermore, if elected VPSL I would work to organize events that give back to the community, we often take granted a lot of things around us that are given to us as a blessing that we often overlook, through these events students would be able to give back to the community and help the less fortunate in their time of need. Last but not the least, I would like to highlight the events happening around the city for the students, every year many free events and festivals go unnoticed by the students that they could’ve easily taken benefit of and have enjoyed. I will, if elected work on making a year event guide that lets the students know about events happening around the city that they can go and enjoy.

Qualifications:

As a second year (going into third year inshaAllah) engineering student I have obtained many skills that are key for this position. I have great time-management skills, analytical skills and interpersonal skills that would help me carry out my duties in this role. I have experience serving as VPSL in the CU-MSA for one and a half term, which gave me an insight of how things are run and the difficulties faced while planning events. Which makes me a stronger candidate to take on the role of VPSL and work on my own platform from the beginning.
